Key Stage 2

Key Stage 2 consists of Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6. Daily Literacy and Numeracy lessons are differentiated to meet the needs of the learners.

In addition the children have a Phonics/Spelling session three times a week. The groups are differentiated according to the sounds/ letter strings that the children need to practise.

Guided Reading happens daily. During the week the children read in a group with a teacher and with a teaching assistant; independently read a range of genres; complete activities relating to the text they are reading  and spelling/grammar activities.

Key Stage 2 take a creative approach to the curriculum through a variety of themes. These include ‘Location, Location, Location’, ‘Way, Way Back, ‘How does your garden grow?’, ‘Antarctica’, ‘Futurama’ and ‘Rewind’. The themes begin with an exciting WOW moment and encompass all the national curriculum subjects including the Humanities, Science, ICT, Art, DT and Music.

PE is also taught for 2 hours a week by a sports coach. This involves a range of dance, gymnastics, ball and team skills/games. Year 4 go swimming once a week as part of the National Curriculum.

Children in Key Stage 2 also have the opportunity to work with Audioface on music  and our residence artist Amanda Whewell on visual art.
